Moreover, after a year of careful compilation and hard work, Dr. Julie Br\u00fbl\u00e9 and Dr. Benoit Tousignant, IRIS Mundial volunteer optometrists, have produced a scientific poster entitled\u00a0<i>Prevalence of Impairment and Eye Disease in Ile de la Gon\u00e2ve, Haiti<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=&#8221;Market Information Title Area&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.25&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;0px|0px|0px|0px||&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.25&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;|||&#8221; custom_padding__hover=&#8221;|||&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.6&#8243; text_font=&#8221;Lora||||||||&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;16px&#8221; text_line_height=&#8221;1.8em&#8221; header_font=&#8221;||||||||&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;flip&#8221; animation_direction=&#8221;left&#8221; animation_intensity_flip=&#8221;20%&#8221; animation_starting_opacity=&#8221;100%&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>More than 1700 people among the most deprived had been examined in 2013 by an IRIS Mundial volunteer\u2019s team, when they went to a disadvantaged area where no eye\u00a0care services are available. This study provides data for the first time on prevalence of the visual impairments of the islanders, helping to better identify their needs and plan future interventions to improve their ocular-visual health.<\/p>\n<p>The study presented (based on 1724 patients), confirms the prevalence of glaucoma (1%) and cataracts (7%) in this population. Uncorrected refractive errors are frequent (55%), while 13% of these patients show moderate to severe visual impairment.
