Since 2001, at the initiative of Dr. Jean-Pierre Tchang, Optometrist, IRIS Mundial volunteers participated in more than 24 one-time projects and 19 training missions in eye care, mainly in Haiti and Peru, but also in Senegal, Mexico, Benin, Mozambique and India. Two Programs for Prevention and Fight Against Blindness (PPFB) were also implemented in Haiti, Labrousse in 2010 and Limbe in 2013. IRIS Mundial projects contributed directly to assist over 89,000 people and over 934 people have undergone surgery.

The current strategy developed by IRIS Mundial is based on the experience gained from these projects, thus promoting the visual health autonomy of the most disadvantaged populations.
