Our history

IRIS Mundial was started by Dr Jean-Pierre Tchang, optometrist and owner of the IRIS store in St-Pamphile, who organized volunteer optometry missions from 1997 to 2001, mainly in Honduras and Mexico. In 2001 he officially founded Mission IRIS Mundial, an organization that he managed on a voluntary basis until 2014. During this period, he organized 20 missions in many countries in addition to setting up two permanent programs in Haiti.

Since its creation, IRIS Mundial has organized over 24 one-time projects and 22 training missions, mainly in Haiti and Peru, but also in Mexico, Benin, Mozambique, India and more recently in Senegal. Three permanent programs have also been implemented. Thanks to the contribution of many generous volunteers who offer their professional expertise, time, and commitment, IRIS Mundial has helped more then 98,000 people to better see the world and more than 1,000 people have benefited from surgeries!
