Island of La Gônave, Haiti

From January 9 to 16, 2013, IRIS Mundial volunteers went to the Island of Gonâve in Haiti to provide eye care to the community of Anse-à-Galets. The project was a great success. A dynamic team of thirty Canadian and Haitian volunteers (ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians, nurses and assistants) provided eyecare to 1700 of the poorest patients on the island. They all received a thorough eye exam, prescription glasses, sunglasses and/or ocular drugs. In addition, thirty patients were able to receive cataract surgery and thus regain sight.
