Since 2009, the Jean-Pierre Tchang Award has been presented annually to recognize the exceptional commitment of an IRIS Mundial volunteer. Created in honor of our founder, Dr. Jean-Pierre Tchang, this award highlights those who, through their generosity, dedication, and involvement, help advance our mission to improve access to eye care in vulnerable communities.
This year, as IRIS Mundial celebrates its 25th anniversary, we wanted to pay a very special tribute. In fact, the award was presented during the photo exhibition and celebration of IRIS Mundial’s 25th anniversary, held on May 30.
Behind each of our achievements—every mission, every consultation, every surgery, and every pair of glasses distributed—lies a vast network of dedicated individuals who make our work possible.
That is why the 2026 Jean-Pierre Tchang Award was presented, in an exceptional and symbolic gesture, to IRIS, Le Groupe Visuel and its team, the owners and staff of the IRIS stores, as well as the IRIS Ophthalmology Clinic.
For many years, the IRIS family has actively supported the mission of IRIS Mundial. Whether by participating in IRIS Mundial Month every February, raising awareness of our work among their patients and clients, supporting our fundraising campaigns, or getting involved in our events, IRIS teams demonstrate a remarkable commitment to our cause.
Thanks to their dedication and generosity, thousands of people around the world have been able to receive essential eye care, regain their sight, prevent avoidable blindness, and gain access to a brighter future.
During the award ceremony, the Executive Director of IRIS Mundial emphasized the importance of this unwavering support:
